Tuesday August 4th – 12:00AM, Karoleena Headquarters:
The Karoleena crew loads modules onto 3 flatbed semi-trucks. Each module is shrink-wrapped and secured with straps to ensure total stability while in-transit.
3:00am: On transit, the trucks are stopped at the weigh scales. The heaviest module comes in at 51,000lbs. This is the kitchen module inclusive with a rooftop deck.
4:45am: The trucks arrive safely at their Eagle Bay, BC destination. The modules are unwrapped and inspected for damage.
8:00am: The backhoe clears the plot of land to prepare for use of the crane.
12:30pm: The safety crews gather for a thorough meeting. Craning of the house commences just after lunch.
The first module lifted was the heaviest. The module was 56×16 and included the kitchen, den, and rooftop deck. It can be seen here being placed ever so carefully onto the foundation.
The second module was simpler to lift as it was only 14×40 including the entry, laundry and main floor bath linking the kitchen and main room to the staircase and entrance.
The final module was the most complex installation as this 56×16 module cantilevers over the entry module now creating a 1950 sf 3bdrm, 3 bath home.
5:30pm: Craning complete! What a tremendous day and successful assembly. It is a testament to the great design and hard work put in by all those involved. This called for a round of thumbs up and high fives!
The following day: The cross laminated timbers were installed finalizing this masterpiece:
